How does the Tapas Boat Amsterdam work?

The tapas boat departs as standard from our home port Room Mate Aitana. But of course you can also board at another location (costs a little more).

Our skipper welcomes you. Our well-stocked Dutch bar (beer, wine and soft drinks) is at your disposal on board. The tour through Amsterdam canals can start right away. Which route does the Tapas Boat sail through Amsterdam?

The Amsterdam canals are a standard part of your tapas tour. You can determine the route yourself in consultation with our skipper. Will it be a trip through the heart of Amsterdam, or would you perhaps like to explore Amsterdam North or the new city islands (KNSM-Java Island)? You can decide for yourself.

How can you make this Amsterdam Tapas Boat even more fun?

Your boat trip doesn’t really need any decoration anymore. But we can imagine that you might want some extra entertainment on board. In that case we have a fantastic accordionist for you. Success assured. Or how about a city guide who was born and raised in Amsterdam? Please inquire with us about the possibilities.

Can other snacks be served?

Imagine you don’t like tapas. In that case no problem. We also offer a Vrijmibo(ot) or our Amsterdam Borrelboot with delicious Amsterdam snacks or a BBQ boat with board the most delicious meats and salads.

Why is Amsterdam called “Mokum”?

Until the Second World War, Jewish traders often gave large cities a nickname. The reason was as simple as it was convenient. Due to the secret nickname, potential listeners could not find out where Jewish traders traveled with their valuable merchandise (often diamonds!).

The nicknames of the cities invariably started with ‘Mokum’. This was followed by a letter of the Hebrew alphabet. This letter was often the first letter of the name of the city in question. This is how Dordrecht was called Mokum Dollet. Berlin, Mokum Beisz and Amsterdam, Mokum Allif. After the Second World War, this form of secret language disappeared. Only Amsterdam has held out and we no longer need Allif.

It is hinted that the Jews used the word Mokum to indicate that they felt at home in Amsterdam. Mokum is a pet name for many Amsterdam residents and of course also for us.
