Dining in a romantic saloon boat

Rederij Mokum has beautiful historic salon boats. Our boats offer every comfort on board. In bad weather, our boats are wonderfully heated. When the weather is nice, the windows and roof can be fully opened (not on the large ships). A dinner cruise on board one of our ships is an intimate way to enjoy the Amsterdam canals.

Amsterdam Dinner cruise for small and large groups

You can book a dinner cruise with us for 15-30 people per boat. We make a quote with love. Would you like to take a look at the map? That is possible, see the menu below.

Sailing through the canals, we can organize a dinner cruise for up to 30 guests in one ship. If there are more, we can of course always deploy several ships.

Sail through the canals with our classic salon boats in Amsterdam as a sailing restaurant!

Van de Kaart offers a 3 or 4-course menu. This means that you can choose from at least a fish, meat or vegetarian menu.

What is the difference between an Amsterdam dinner cruise and a running dinner?

With a dinner cruise, the dishes are served and eaten on board. With a running dinner you sail from restaurant to restaurant. You can eat the dishes on site in the various restaurants.

Do we eat the dishes while sailing through the canals of Amsterdam? Or do we lie still in front of the restaurant?

The dishes are only collected from Restaurant van de Kaart. Your dinner cruise takes place while sailing through Amsterdam.

Why is Amsterdam called “Mokum”?

Until the Second World War, Jewish traders often gave large cities a nickname. The reason was as simple as it was convenient. Due to the secret nickname, potential listeners could not find out where Jewish traders traveled with their valuable merchandise (often diamonds!).

The nicknames of the cities invariably started with ‘Mokum’. This was followed by a letter of the Hebrew alphabet. This letter was often the first letter of the name of the city in question. This is how Dordrecht was called Mokum Dollet. Berlin, Mokum Beisz and Amsterdam, Mokum Allif. After the Second World War, this form of secret language disappeared. Only Amsterdam has held out and we no longer need Allif.

It is hinted that the Jews used the word Mokum to indicate that they felt at home in Amsterdam. Mokum is a pet name for many Amsterdam residents and of course also for us.
