Are you looking for beautiful sailing routes in Amsterdam?
Rederij Mokum has put several fantastically detailed sailing routes that are sold through the Amsterdam sailing guide online for free. These routes are designed in such a way that you pass all the beautiful historic places in Amsterdam.
Canal Cruise
The Canal Tour goes through the heart of the city. We sail along the Singel, originally a defensive wall from the early fifteenth century. We also sail past the much younger Prinsen-, Keizers- and Herengracht, all three dating from the beginning of the seventeenth century.
Contrary to popular belief, these three canals were constructed at the same time. They formed the backdrop for wealthy merchants who wanted to live ‘outside’ in Amsterdam. You will sail on the Prinsengracht for a large part of the trip. This is traditionally not the most chic canal, but it is one of the nicest canals. Our tour starts at the Singel near the Spui.
Cruise Red Light District
Sailing through the Red Light District is sailing through the oldest waterway in Amsterdam. It is an unparalleled experience. Especially in the evening, you can be a spectator of unique scenes from the narrow, illuminated canals. Hordes of tourists walk past the pleasure princesses, giggling shyly or groaning in amazement. In long raincoats, with their heads hidden deep in the collar, are the men who know better than anyone that you cannot buy love. The red light district is one of the largest entertainment centers in the Netherlands. The typical red lighting, with which this part of Amsterdam is recognized worldwide, has its origins in the lights with which the women of pleasure used to beckon shipmen on the quay. It appears that these women wrapped red paper around their lamps, creating a much-needed distinction from the other lighting along the water.
Cruise East
The Vaartocht Oost takes you to the watery east of the city. Although many authentic buildings have completely or partially disappeared, such as the Haringpakkerstoren and the Sint Antoniepoort, history comes to life from the water. Sailing over the Entrepotdok or along the Magere Brug we see the remains of historical activity. They illustrate the influence of trade and shipping on the development of Amsterdam.
Vaartocht westelijke eilanden
Cruise to the eastern harbor area
The Eastern Docklands of Amsterdam is one of the most successful metropolitan new construction projects after the war. Between the 1980s and now, the eastern part of the Amsterdam port has grown into a contemporary and international example of inner-city restructuring on the water. This cruise provides an overview of recent urban development and architectural developments.
